IRVINE, USA, im Februar 2011 - Mit dem RackMac mini präsentiert Sonnet Technologies ein neuartiges Gehäuse für Mac minis. Im 1U-Rackmount-Format können ein oder zwei minis der neuen Generation installiert werden. Damit bietet Sonnet eine preiswerte Alternative zu Xserve von Apple. Die 19 Zoll-Lösung ist gleichermaßen ideal für die Nutzung im Büro und im mobilen Einsatz.

Auf der Vorderseite des RackMac minis befinden sich der Ein/Aus-Schalter sowie eine USB-Schnittstelle für jeden mini. Kabel, Keyboards, USB-Laufwerke oder anderes Zubehör lassen sich daher völlig unkompliziert anschließen. Die DVD-Laufwerke der Macs sind durch die Frontplatte weiterhin frei zugänglich. Für optimale Luftzirkulation ist auch gesorgt, selbst wenn RackMac mini zwischen anderen Komponenten eingebaut wird. Der Luftstrom wird von vorne durch das Rackmount hindurch geleitet.

Das Gehäuse ist aus robustem Stahl gefertigt. Ein Riegel hält die kleinen Macs auch beim Transport sicher an ihrem Platz. RackMac mini kann problemlos in Rack-Schränke oder Einzelracks integriert werden.

For a long time, Apple® kept a secret that was well known to a lot of people-Mac mini computers make sweet basic servers. They even acknowledged this fact by creating Mac mini Servers with dual hard drives and no optical disc drive. Apple did not, however, mention how you should integrate Mac mini into a server rack. Setting them on a simple shelf is an option, but security is nonexistent-there is no built-in option to secure the computer, which limits the Mac mini's potential for widespread use in server racks.
